Lifestyle newborn photographer I Skagit Valley, Washington

Congratulations on your newest addition to the family! Whether you're already deep in the newborn haze or about to step into it, I’m so incredibly happy for you.

My approach to newborn photography is all about natural, love-filled moments. I won’t place your baby in posed setups or use props like baskets or boxes. Instead, I’ll gently guide you to cuddle, breathe them in, kiss their tiny cheeks, and simply hold them close—because your baby is happiest in your arms, and that’s exactly what I want to capture.

The newborn stage passes in a blur—sleepless nights, new emotions, and the whirlwind of it all. One day, you’ll look back and realize how fleeting it was. That’s why documenting these first moments matters—you’ll never regret having these memories to return to.

When should I schedule my newborn session?

I recommend capturing your baby's first few weeks of life, but the most important thing is that you feel ready. Whether that’s at two weeks or six weeks, there’s no right or wrong time—just keep in mind that newborns change incredibly fast, so you may not want to wait too long. I consider newborn sessions up to around four months old, so there’s plenty of flexibility to find the perfect time for you.

What is the best time for a newborn session?

Most newborn sessions take place in your home—the space where you first brought your baby and where so many of these early moments unfold. Natural light is key for a soft, beautiful look, and homes typically have the best lighting in the morning through midday, which is when I’ll schedule your session.

If you’d love an outdoor newborn session, golden hour—about 1.5 hours before sunset—offers the most dreamy, flattering light. Whether indoors or out, the focus will always be on the deep connection and love you share with your little one.

What else do I need to know about the lifestyle newborn session?

I reserve at least two hours for your newborn session, allowing plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and outfit changes—no rushing, just a relaxed experience that flows at your baby’s pace. And yes, your fur babies are absolutely welcome to join in, too!

No need to deep clean your house—just a little tidying is perfect. We’ll likely use spaces like the nursery, living room, and bedroom, depending on the best light. To keep your photos looking their best, I recommend putting away any clutter or items you don’t want in the background the day before our session.

“We had wonderful experience with Eva during our newborn photo session. Not only did she captured beautiful moments of the family but somehow she managed to take beautiful photos of our very uncooperative 2 year old

We are very pleased with the outcome ! “ Kasia

What should we wear for a lifestyle newborn session?

First and foremost—be comfortable and choose outfits that make you feel good. Your body is incredible, and yes, you may still have a baby bump—that’s completely normal and beautiful. Some moms even wear their favorite maternity dress for their session, and it photographs beautifully.

For in-home sessions, light, neutral tones work best. They help reflect natural light and create a soft, airy feel in your photos. Earthy tones and pastels also complement the warmth of these moments.

For your baby, keep it simple with rompers, onesies, or soft knits—outfits that won’t bunch up or hide their tiny details. Avoid anything that exposes the diaper or feels too fussy. And don’t forget to show off all those newborn features—tiny fingers, wrinkly feet, and soft, squishy cheeks. These little details are the ones you’ll want to remember most.
